Elena Rybakina has been seen training on the practice courts in Cancun ahead of the 2023
WTA Finals.
The World No. 4 is among the Top 8 players of the season to have qualified for the WTA Finals, with her spot being confirmed at the beginning of September.
The Kazakhstani player will be in the company of the best in the world, including Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Marketa Vondrousova, and Ons Jabeur. Karolina Muchova was also set to compete at the WTA Finals, but withdrew due to injury and has thus been replaced by Maria Sakkari.
Rybakina trains for first WTA Finals
2023 marks the first year that Rybakina has qualified for the WTA Finals despite having won Wimbledon in 2022. This is due to the fact that players were not awarded ranking points at last year's grasscourt major after Russian and Belarusian athletes were banned.
Despite not winning a Grand Slam this season, the 24-year-old has still seen a lot of success. She reached the final of the Australian Open in January, and won two WTA 1000 tournaments - the 2023 Indian Wells and 2023 Italian Open.
Now, a video has emerged of Rybakina practicing ahead of the WTA Finals, which will begin on October 29. Fans have reacted to the post, with many sharing words of encouragement for the player.
"Elena Rybakina training in Cancun today ahead of the WTA Finals. The calm before the storm. Lena looks ready," wrote The Tennis Letter on X. In a previous post about her practice sessions, they added that she had "The most effective serve in the women’s game," likening it to "art".
"Such power and elegance!" added another fan.
"Rybaqueen," commented a third.
