Canada’s young tennis star
Leylah Fernandez has showcased
her football skills during the ongoing
Qatar Open.
The 21-year-old is currently taking part in the WTA 1000
event in the singles category in the Middle Eastern country. In a video that was posted by the WTA on their official account
on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — Fernandez can be
seen showcasing her football skills.
Fernandez is having a more than impressive time on the court
in the ongoing competition as she has booked her place in the round of 16
already.
In the first round, she got the better of the Liudmila Samsonova
with a score of 7-5, 7-6. In the round of 32, she got the better of Spain’s
tennis star Paula Badosa with a score of 0-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Fernandez is now set to face the world number five China’s Qinwen
Zheng in the round of 16 clash on Wednesday. Interestingly, it will be the
first-ever meeting between the players at the highest level and therefore, it
will be interesting to see how both players will live up to the expectations.
Fernandez was also taking part in the double category in the
mega-event but her journey came to an end in the second round as she and her
partner Oksana Kalashnikova lost to the pair of Elise Mertens and Hsieh Su-wei.
