Patrick
Mouratoglou signed autographs alongside Holger Rune at the Miami Open, sparking
reactions from fans on social media. The alliance with Rune was resumed just a
month ago, after several changes in the Danish player's team, ultimately opting
to work with Mouratoglou again.
However,
the former coach of Serena Williams has faced criticism, especially since the
ban on Simona Halep for doping. The former world No. 1 tested positive for
roxadust, which was allegedly in a dietary supplement provided by her team, led
by Mouratoglou.
This led to
Halep being sidelined for 19 months, and she could have faced a 4-year ban if
not for the reduction in her sentence, where the tribunal concluded that the
substance consumption was unintentional on the part of the tennis player, but
it did establish negligence on her part. The supplement was provided to her by
her coach at the time, Patrick Mouratoglou.
Halep's
return to the Tour in Miami and Mouratoglou's recent partnership with Rune once
again place the coach in the spotlight of criticism. Even tennis player John
Millman and former world No. 1 Kim Clijsters have made direct criticisms of
Mouratoglou. This time, fans on social media commented on the video shared by
the official Miami Open account.
“@pmouratoglou
needs to be banished from tennis sooner rather than later he has got off Scot
for from the obvious doping the Drs at his academy were doing with @Simona_Halep
and this isn't the 1dt time questions have been asked about him and his academy”
