After previously working with Darren Cahill most prominently and recently Patrick Mouratoglou prior to her ban for taking a supplement provided by the Academy of the latter, Simona Halep has appointed her new coach for her continued return from the sport.
Halep will work with Carlos Martinez going forward who has previously worked with Svetlana Kuznetsova, Clara Tauson and Daria Kasatkina among others she confirmed in an interview with DigiSport. She has been working with Portuguese coach, Joao Monteiro, a former top 300 player. She returned to action this past week losing out to Paula Badosa at the Miami Open in her first action since testing positive after the 2022 US Open for substance Roxudustat. Recently she saw a four year ban rescinded to only nine months allowing an immediate return.
"I spoke with Carlos Martinez, I will have a period of preparation, of getting to know each other, so to speak, after Miami, when I will return to Europe. I hope it goes well, I appreciate him very much, he worked with players who -I really liked them, like Svetlana Kuznetsova, and I admire her work very, very much," said Halep to DigiSport.
"I hope we get along and I hope I'm able to work at the level he wants and do good work together."
