Tennis fans ripped Caroline Wozniacki for her viewpoint surrounding Simona Halep and in particular the wildcards given to those who return from doping in a heavily discussed set of quotes from the Miami Open.
Halep's career restarted this past Tuesday albeit in a losing effort to Paula Badosa after going a set up. It was the first time she'd been on a tennis court since August 2022. But also behind it, there was a sense of hypocrisy with Halep herself sharing her displeasure previously at Maria Sharapova benefitting from wildcards when she returned to the sport.
Despite Wozniacki saying specifically it wasn't aimed at Halep and that they have a good relationship and was more of a general point, tennis fans didn't take it that way and Halep also had to fight her corner in her press conference.
"If someone has tested positive for doping, it's my personal belief that I don't think people should be awarded wild-cards afterwards," said Wozniacki. Halep responded saying: "Yeah, but why? I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't cheat. I didn't dope. So it's better if we read the decision from CAS that it was a contaminated supplement, it wasn't doping. I never had something to do with doping. I never doped, so I'm not a cheater.
Thank you to the tournament for giving me the wild card and have the possibility to play in such a big tournament . It was great to be back. Only one person being negative about me is not that important because I have hundreds of people that are giving me love, so I will take that."
But tennis fans didn't respond so kindly to the comments initially from Wozniacki calling her Serena Williams' puppy and that she is complaining for no reason given that she benefits from the wildcard system herself. Albeit some also said that Wozniacki's complaints are valid given that Halep herself held the same views not long ago regarding Sharapova.

I really dislike this woman every interview she gives. Still living in wildcards herself and now feels she can give her views on who gets them. I hope she can show us moving forward how she can get back on tour without them. First it was rubbish views about the top10. Complainer
People are mad at Caro when this was literally Simona’s stance once upon a time
