Actress
Brooke Shields has spoken about her relationship with
Andre Agassi, whom she
was married to from 1997 to 1999. The film star and the tennis player had a
well-known relationship during the toughest years of the 8-time Grand Slam
champion.
During
those years, Agassi failed to clinch any major titles, ending 1997 as world No.
110 due to a wrist injury that limited him to just 24 matches that year. The
American later confessed to using methamphetamine and, after failing a doping
test, sent a letter to the ATP claiming that a friend had spiked his drink.
In the
recent edition of AARP The Magazine, his ex-wife Brooke Shields shared her
memories of the relationship with one of tennis's legends: “With Andre, it also
felt good to feel smaller than another, because he was so famous and number 1
in the world,” Shields told the outlet.
“Everywhere
we went, he had tons of bodyguards,” she added. “I could sit back because it
wasn’t my world. He was the first one out of the car when we arrived at events,”
she added.
Despite
being challenging years in Agassi's career, he experienced a resurgence around
1999 after his separation from Shields and went on to win the French Open and
the US Open titles, in addition to reaching the Wimbledon final. This
achievement propelled him to the world No. 1 ranking for the first time in his
career.
Years
later, in 2001, the American star married another tennis legend, the 23-time
Grand Slam champion Steffi Graf, with whom he remains to this day. They have
two children, aged 22 and 20. The couple maintains their interest in the sport,
and recently they teamed up to play a pickleball exhibition match against John
McEnroe and Maria Sharapova in Las Vegas.
