Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz believes he will have no advantage over
Jannik Sinner when the two face off in the final of
Wimbledon. Both players will face off in the final of the third Grand Slam of the year on Sunday. It will be the second consecutive final of a major where Sinner will face Alcaraz.
Alcaraz, who is also the defending champion for the second consecutive year, defeated America’s Taylor Fritz with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 to book a spot in the final of Wimbledon for the third consecutive year. On the other hand, Sinner defeated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in straight sets to book his spot in the final of Wimbledon for the first time in his career.
Earlier this year at the
French Open, Alcaraz defeated Sinner in a five-set thriller with a score of 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. During the contest, Alcaraz saved three championship points in the fourth set. The match lasted more than five hours and officially became the second-longest final in the Grand Slams' history in the Open era.
Alcaraz spoke to the media after beating Fritz, where he stated that he does not believe he has any advantage over Sinner going into the Wimbledon final. Alcaraz said that Sinner is a ‘champion’ player who must have learnt a lot after suffering a heartbreaking defeat in the final in Paris.
“Not at all to be honest,” he said. “What Jannik has is because he learned from everything, like the huge champion he is. From the losses. From the matches he’s playing. He just gets better after every match and every day. I’m pretty sure he’s gonna take a lot of things from the French Open final. He’s gonna be better physically and mentally. He’s gonna be prepared on Sunday to give his 100%. I’m not thinking I have an advantage mentally because of that match.”
