"You're stealing points!" 😤 There was 𝐃𝐑𝐀𝐌𝐀 during the deciding tie-break as Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula crashed out in the doubles 😳 #USOpen | @USOpen
One of the favourites for winning the US Open doubles trophy, in form Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff are out after getting beaten by Leylah Fernandez and Daria Saville.
The duo recently won a trophy and looked in a strong position to make a deep run here. Gauff made the finals last year and hoped to do it again but that won't happen. They are out after being beaten by Gauff and Fernandez in 3 sets.
During the heated championship tiebreak where they trailed 5-7 at the time, Saville proceeded to call let in the middle of a point which Gauff and Pegula were 'winning'. Umpire Christian Rask obliged and called a let leaving the Americans in disbelief.
The let was called after a piece of paper flew onto the court in the middle of the point but it did not impact the play because it happened behind the play. The Americans were not having it:
“She can’t call let!” said Pegula with Gauff adding: "It’s the second time! You’re taking points away from us… You’re stealing points from us."
Pegula continued dropping a 'f bomb' as well:
“She [Gauff] has a sitter right on top of the net. You did not call it until she [Saville] stopped. She yelled in the middle of a point, ‘Let!’, you can’t even f***ing do that.”
