Fernandez and Saville make doubles debut dumping out Gauff and Pegula at US Open

A tie between four formidable singles stars in their own right saw Leylah Fernandez and Daria Saville who were teaming for the first time secure victory over the world number one team in Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula.

Gauff and Pegula who were second seeds at the US Open were defeated 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5) by the team comprising the Canadian singles finalist from last year and the Aussie ace who came from a set down before bouncing back and clinching the third-set tiebreak.

They will now face Dalma Galfi and Bernarda Pera in the second round and after both exiting in the singles will be hoping to add doubles success.
