America’s tennis star
Jessica Pegula’s reply to a question
ahead of the
US Open left people laughing at the press conference.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is set to begin
on Monday where players from all over the world will participate to showcase
their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
Pegula, in a press talk ahead of the mega-event, was asked
what she has to do to get past the quarterfinals stage, to which she responded
by saying: “I mean, I just need to win a quarterfinal. That would help me get
past the quarterfinal stage to a semifinal.”
The question from the journalist made a lot of sense as the
Buffalo-born has played in the last-eight of all four Grand Slams.
However, interestingly, she has never played beyond the
quarterfinals stage, something she would like to rectify in the upcoming
mega-event.
Pegula’s best appearance while playing at the Flashing
Medows came last year when she lost to the current world number one Poland’s
Iga Swiatek in the quarters with a score of 6-3, 7-6.
The current world number three’s opening encounter at the US
Open 2023 is against Italy’s Camila Giorgi on Tuesday.
