America’s tennis star Coco Gauff stated that her current
coach Brad Gilbert has not given her any nickname.
The two have been working together for some time and it has worked
in the favour of the current 19-year-old who has recently won the Cincinnati
Open (Western & Southern Open) after beating Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova
in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Talking about the experience of working with Gilbert who is
the ex-coach of the former world number one Andre Agassi, Gauff stated that he
does not have a nickname for her but has a lot for others.
“Yeah, BG, he hasn't really given me any nicknames,” she
said. “He has a lot of nicknames for other people or like shots and different
tennis shots and everything. Yeah, I don't think he's ever called me anything.
If he has, I didn't pay attention to it.”
The current world number three further went on to reveal
that she is learning something new every day while working with Gilbert.
“Yeah, he has a lot of unique stuff,” she added. “I'm
learning, like, some of the shots. Sometimes he'll call the kick slice serve,
he'll be like, I want a KS right now. I didn't know what that meant at first.
Now I know what it means.”
Gauff will enter the upcoming US Open as the number three
six seed and she will be hoping to her record at the mega-event where she has
never played beyond the quarterfinals stage.
Her best outing to date at the Flashing Medows came last
year where she was knocked out in the last eight after losing to France’s Caroline
Garcia in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is set to begin
on Monday where in the women’s single category, the current world number one Iga
Swiatek will defend her crow.
