During the very short 2020 season, Elina Svitolina managed to win only 1 title at the Abierto Seguros in Monterrey.
With WTA,
Elina Svitolina and her coach Andy Bettles spoke about the final match in Monterrey. The Ukrainian faced Marie Bouzkova in more than 3-hour battle and many see it as the best match of the 2020 season.
Svitolina had a stunning form at Abierto Seguros. She reached the final without losing a set. En route to the final, the Ukrainian defeated Kovinic, Govortsova, Fernandez and Rus.
However, in the final, she faced Bouzkova who was also in a great form in Monterrey. Both players showed great performances but the match ended better for Svitolina.
She defeated the Czech 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 after 181 minutes.
"Playing in the final is always very special. I think for Marie this was the first final in such an event so I was counting that she might be a little more nervous than me, but I got broken in the first game," Svitolina said.
