A fan-favorite at every tournament, tennis star Jessica Pegula has revealed her personal favorite nickname out of several given to her by fans, friends and family.
The World No.4 wasted little time in her round of 16 victory over Nuria Parrizas-Diaz at the ATX Open Austin on Wednesday, scoring a 6-1 6-3 victory.
Following her victory over her Spanish opponent, Pegula was asked by the interviewer to reveal her favorite nickname or name to be called.
"I don't know," replied the 2024 US Open runner-up. "My name's Jessica but everyone usually calls me Jessie or Jess. When I was younger, my nickname always used to be JP. And as I've gotten older, fans have adopted J.Peg, like the Jpeg file.
"So actually I wish I would have gotten a picture. I think in Doha there was someone who held a sign that said 'Jpeg no glitches', I thought that was pretty good.
"I know I'm so upset I didn't get a picture with him, I kept seeing it up in the stands. So that was a pretty good one. I think the fans have kind of adopted that one for now."
Pegula will face unseeded Russian Anna Blinkova on Friday for a spot in the semifinals.
