British tennis star Emma Raducanu will be making her return to the WTA tour at the upcoming Indian Wells Open, where she intends to compete using a temporary coach.
The 2021 US Open champion has been unable to keep a steady coach since winning her maiden Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows a few years ago. Furthermore, injuries and exhaustion have played a role in her dip in form since clinching the title in New York.
The 22-year old will be teaming with LTA academy coach Tom Welsh during her stay at the desert WTA 1000 event. Additionally, Raducanu will be training with fitness expert Yutaka Nakamura, who worked with five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova during her distinguished career.
Raducanu spent a significant amount of the 2024 season sidelined due to injury. The former World No.10 cut her season short in September, citing several lingering ailments. The British star returned at the 2025 Australian Open, where she lost in the third round to World No.2 Iga Swiatek.
It is unknown if the collaboration between Raducanu and Welsh will go on past Indian Wells, although there are reports that her search for a full-time coach is still ongoing.
