Greece’s tennis star
Maria Sakkari showcased her strength by
breaking the racquet with her hands.
In a video that appeared on social media, the
28-year-old broke the racquet, showing her immense strength and fitness.
The 28-year-old is currently taking part in the Tokyo Open where she has already booked her place in the semifinal after defeating
France’s Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinal with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
She is now set to face off against America’s Jessica Pegula in the last-four
clash on Saturday. Both players have faced off eight times at the highest level
where Sakkari has a slight edge with five wins compared to three victories of
the current world number four.
The Athens-born will be hoping to continue her good run of
form against Pegula and register another positive result when the two will face
off.
Sakkari did not have a great record while playing in major
tournaments this year where, despite playing in the main round of all the Grand
Slams, she failed to qualify for the fourth round or beyond in any of the
tournaments.
The current world
number six’s best outing in any major tournament in 2023 was playing in the
third round of the Australian Open where she lost to China’s Zhu Lin with a
score of 7-6, 1-6, 6-4.
