It has been revealed that Carlos Alcaraz is preparing to set up a new tennis academy in his name, following in the footsteps of tennis greats such as Rafael Nadal.

At just 20 years old, Alcaraz has already experienced a lot of success on the court. The Spaniard has two Grand Slam titles to his name and held the World No. 1 position for a total of 36 weeks.

Therefore, it is little surprise that he has followed in the footsteps of many tennis greats by forming his own academy in his home district of Murcia. The plan is to create a hub where local, national, and global talent can train and thrive.

Alcaraz joins list of tennis greats with academies

Alcaraz's coach Juan Carlos Ferrero gave his name to the Ferrero Tennis Academy, also known as the JC Ferrero-Equelite Sport Academy, which is recognised as one of the best in the world.

Ferrero is reported to be helping with the creation of Alcaraz's academy which will be developed over the next few years.

Alcaraz's compatriot and idol Nadal set up the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca back in 2016. Since then, the academy has helped to produce the likes of Casper Ruud, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Emil Ruusuvuori, with Andy Murray and Bianca Andreescu also having been seen training there. This all came after the now 22-time Grand Slam champion started a tennis school in India in 2010.

Fans react to news

Tennis fans have had a mixed reaction to the news, with some expressing their excitement while others said it was too early in Alcaraz's career to be setting up his own academy.

"Hopefully, it will become the best and greatest Spanish Tennis Academy one day," wrote one.

"Sure why not, it’s still a [bit] early now but in a few more years he’ll be in the all time great discussion so very reasonable of him to think about such projects," added another.

🚨 Carlos Alcaraz has already started plans for a new high-performance tennis academy in Murica, Spain, which bears his name. Ferrero also helping to develop its creation, which, obviously, won’t be completed for a few more years. Source: Okdiario 🗣️
