It was a classic example of grass court tennis on Monday as WTA great Venus Williams displayed her prowess on the surface, executing an elaborate point against Camila Giorgi at the Birmingham Classic.
Williams, who has been out of action since early January, is hoping to compete at this year's Wimbledon. During her first round match against Giorgi, the seven-time Grand Slam champion's experience was on full display.
With the Italian serving, Williams hit a deep return and dictated play as she maneuvered her opponent around the court, before ending the point with a beautiful chip volley at the net. The crowd erupted with applause, pleased to witness the five-time Wimbledon champion at her best.
