Vondrousova revealed the tattoo she will get along with her coach after winning
the
Wimbledon title.
The
24-year-old tennis player defeated
Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4 to claim her first Grand
Slam on Saturday, July 15th, becoming the first female tennis player to win
Wimbledon without being seeded in the Open Era.
On her way
to the title, she defeated Peyton Stearns, Veronika Kudermetova (12th seed),
Donna Vekic (20th seed), Marie Bouzkova (32nd seed), Jessica Pegula (4th seed),
Elina Svitolina, and Jabeur (6th seed).
Prior to her
Wimbledon triumph, Vondrousova had reached the final of the 2019 French Open
but lost to Ashleigh Barty 6-1, 6-3, giving the Australian her first Grand Slam
title.
Apart from
her on-court achievements, the Czech player has drawn attention on the WTA tour
due to the abundance of tattoos she has, something uncommon among tennis
players, and as she herself admitted, she's not even sure how many tattoos she
has on her body.
Recently,
Vondrousova shared that she made a deal with her coach to get a tattoo each
time she wins a Grand Slam.
"I
have a bet with my coach. If I win a Grand Slam, he's going to get [a tattoo],
so I hope I will [win Wimbledon]. Yeah, I mean, we'll see what happens,"
Vondrousova said in a press conference before the match against Jabeur.
"I
think we are going to get a little strawberry somewhere (laughing). Yeah,
that's true. There's no way out, no," she added.
After
claiming the Venus Rosewater Dish trophy, Vondrousova soared to world No. 10
and secured the fifth position in the race to the WTA Finals rankings. Taking a
week off from tournaments, the Czech player will swiftly return to the courts
at the WTA 250 BNP Paribas Warsaw Open, where she holds the second seed
position, just behind the world No. 1, Iga Swiatek
