Bianca Andreescu was the first teenager to break through with the 2019 US Open win and since then two more teenagers have won a grand slam trophy.
The rise of the new generation of WTA superstars has been something to behold with three of them winning grand slams since 2019. Andreescu became the first to do it back in 2019 and it ended a 13-year drought for that specific achievement as the last one to do it was Maria Sharapova at the 2006 US open at age 19. Asked about it, Andreescu gave a long and measured answer saying:
"Tennis has evolved so from a young age we are able to have fitness trainers, and Tennis Canada really helped provide us with coaches and trainers and we were able to travel, and they really helped us be able to accomplish things at a younger age."
It's a very true thing with tennis evolving every day players have better chances of succeeding at a younger age than before. Another reason for Andreescu is an unknown factor in youngsters that causes them to play more freely:
"We're youngsters and we're just, I don't know, super fearless these days. I don't know why, honestly. But that is definitely a factor."
It's something that has been visible during the US Open with both Raducanu and Fernandez playing without any major pressure, especially in key rallies. Fernandez was especially noted for going for it in key points and not playing conservatively.
