While Emma Raducanu has not hit peak form yet she did show some promise in the events leading up to Washington and she'll continue working with Tursunov for now.
Tursunov joined Raducanu's team ahead of the North American hard court swing and their first event together was in Washington. It was a solid outing for Emma with some wins but nothing special. Toronto was a disappointment as she was unable to handle Giorgi despite being up a break twice in the opening set. Speaking of her Cincinnati debut, Raducanu confirmed that she'll continue the trial:
“He’s here, we’re continuing the trial. It’s mainly, we just need to see how we work with each other, how we complement each other. That’s it, I guess. It’s too early to tell.”
The decision to pair up with the Russian caused major controversy back home in the UK with many not wanting any Russian to be associated with their number one players. Politicians urged Raducanu not to work with Tursunov fearing her being used as a propaganda tool but the Brit made her decision and she's sticking with it.
Tursunov completely transformed Anett Kontaveit last year guiding her to career-best number two on the WTA Rankings.
