Jessica Pegula and
Ons Jabeur were an unexpected final pairing in Madrid but they played a great match and Ons went on to win it.
Following the match, Pegula paid tribute to herself and Jabeur explaining how they have come a long way from a few years ago when they were both ranked in the 70s. She said:
"I wanna say congrats to Ons. You've been in a lot of finals, a lot of close matches. I'm sad you've pulled it off against me today but you deserved it you've worked really hard."
She continued:
"I think for both of us these last two weeks proved a lot. We've come a long way from a few years ago. We were 75 and 76, right next to each other. That's pretty amazing."
