Wimbledon 2024 will begin on July 1st. Players from all over the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize. For the third Grand Slam of the year in 2024, the women’s singles seed has been announced, and there are no major surprises. The seeding is done according to the current standings in the WTA ranking.
The first seed is going to be world number one Iga Swiatek. The Polish tennis star will be hoping to finally live up to her talent on the grass court, where traditionally, she has not had a great record. Swiatek’s best outing in the competition was in 2023 where she lost in the quarterfinal to Elina Svitolina of Ukraine with a score of 7-5, 6-7, 6-2.
The number two seed will be America’s Coco Gauff, who will be followed by Aryna Sabalenka and world number four Elena Rybakina. Defending champion Marketa Vondrousova has been seeded sixth, which means that she is likely to face Gauff in the semifinal. The 24-year-old won the competition last year, defeating Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
The last two editions' runner-up, Jabeur, is seeded 10th, and therefore, a rematch of last year’s Wimbledon final is on the cards in the later stages of the competition. One of the most anticipated contests is likely to feature the likes of Swiatek and Sabalenka in the semifinal if both players win their matches. The two recently placed in back-to-back finals of the Madrid Open and Rome Open where on both occasion, the current world number one came out on top.
