Russia’s tennis star
Andrey Rublev surprised a young fan in
a video posted on X's social media platform. The 26-year-old is considered one of the best players currently
playing in men’s tennis in the single category.
In a video posted on a social media platform that was
previously called Twitter, Rublev met his young fan. His reaction after
receiving the surprise was priceless. The Moscow-born star spoke during the video, stating that it would feel ‘nice’ if he could make some fans smile.
“This kind of things I am always tight because sometimes I
think any player would be better than me,” he said. “But in the end, in the moment,
if they are smiling, if I am making them a bit happier, it’s nice.” The current world number six is going through a mixed campaign.
He recently participated in the Halle Open but lost in the round of 32 clash to
America’s Marcos Giron in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-6.
Before that, he took part in the French Open where his
journey came to an end in the third round when he lost to Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi
in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-2, 6-4. Rublev’s best performance this season came in the Madrid
Open, where he lifted the title after beating Canada’s Felix Auger Aliassime with
a score of 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. In addition, he played in the semifinal of the Dubai Tennis Championship, where he was disqualified in the third round while facing Alexander Bublik, with the score of 6-7, 6-4, 6-5.
In the first Grand Slam of the year, Rublev’s journey came
to an end in the quarterfinal, as he lost to eventual champion and the newly crowned world number one, Italy’s Jannik Sinner, with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 6-3. It will be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming
Wimbledon, where he does not have a great record. His best record in that competition came in 2023 when his
journey finally ended in the quarterfinal, where he lost to former
world number one Novak Djokovic with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3.
