World No.1, Iga Swiatek will face Ons Jabeur on Saturday at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix for a spot in the final after once again taking down Karolina Pliskova albeit in a three set affair in Stuttgart.
Swiatek saw off Qinwen Zheng, another familiar opponent yesterday and this time prevailed 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 against the Czech ace.
Pliskova put up a great fight to start the match being the first to force Swiatek into a deciding set in 2023 with the first set going her way 6-4 but despite not being at her best and not being able to find her angles as easy, the Pole resumed her dominance only losing three more games.
In that first set, she had a lot of issues with her serve as Pliskova took a 4-0 lead. Swiatek reduced the arrears down to 4-5 but Pliskova served it out.
It was Swiatek's turn to go 4-0 up and the end of the set was another two breaks with Swiatek again losing her serve but claiming it back and holding to love to level up.
The third game saw Pliskova lose her serve in the decider but it wasn't as simple as Swiatek went 4-2 up. It was another break that proved pivotal and match points were brought up with one being enough.
