Serena Williams will play her final event at the 2022 US Open and Patrick McEnroe could see a fairytale ending.
Serena Williams played three matches this year and she lost two of them with the most recent one coming in Toronto last week. The American tennis legend is not playing that well at the moment and it's highly unlikely that she will produce a level high enough to win the US Open against so many talented players.
Patrick McEnroe agrees but he would not be shocked if it happened:
“It would surprise me if she won this US Open, but it would not shock me. Greatness is greatness. Never underestimate it - or Serena. I think the US Open in New York City is the perfect place for Serena’s last stand."
Williams herself has not spoken about it but it's clear that she's aiming at winning it. It's not an event that she'll play just to say goodbye, if she's playing it she aims to win it:
“Her passion to play, compete and win was all time. That passion sometimes got the best of her — especially in New York. But that’s what helped her become the icon that she is. With all the ups and downs, trials and tribulations that Serena has had at the Open, this is the appropriate final chapter."
McEnroe finally concluded that it will be very emotional for a lot of people.
