Casper Ruud is in the US Open semi-final and he arrived there after beating Matteo Berrettini in spectacular fashion.
Eurosport analysts Barbara Schett and Mats Wilander were certainly stunned by the level of tennis Ruud is showing at this year's US Open. Both of them know that he is a good tennis player but both had reservations if he could handle hard courts in the way he handles clay courts. Schett highlighted that after the match:
“It was unbelievable tennis, especially with the forehand. He could pretty much do anything today, and he had all the answers to the questions. People always reduced him to a clay court player, but he certainly proved today that he’s not only playing great tennis on clay court.”
Wilander certainly shared her thoughts on Ruud proving himself more than capable on pretty fast hard courts:
“For a set and a half, he looked like he couldn't do anything wrong. He picked the right return position. He often picked the right return to get back in play and like you say, when the ball is in play, Casper Ruud’s forehand today is actually better than Berrettini's. A lot of that has to do with the movement. He was able to move Matteo from left to, right. And just an amazingly strong effort by Casper. He’s showing me that he has a level of tennis in him on this surface, that I wasn't sure existed in its game. But wow, he's playing unbelievable.”
