Aryna Sabalenka played a really strong match to take down
Karolina Pliskova 6-1 7-6(4) and advance to the
US Open semi-final.
It was a fairly solid match that followed a really quick pace of play with Sabalenka being the better player for the majority of it. The opening set was a blitzkrieg by the Belarusian who had no trouble smashing her opponent fairly easily.
Pliskova did not play well at all to start the match serving rather poorly and being all over the place from the baseline. She hit only one winner but committed 15 unforced errors which was pale in comparison to Sabalenka's 10 and 10. She dropped her serve three times for the 1-6 loss.
The 2nd set was much better by Pliskova as she played a lot better. She served better as well, which was part of it. She did have to say a break point midway through the set which she was able to do. Sabalenka did not face a single break point in the second set which ended in a tiebreak.
Sabalenka played well in the tiebreak taking an early lead which she maintained until winning it 7-4. A good match from Sabalenka who looks really dangerous this year.
