After the 2020 Wimbledon was cancelled, many former champions from All England Club reacted to this message, including Serena Williams, Simona Halep or Petra Kvitova.
The cancellation of 2020 Wimbledon and further extension of Tour suspension was big news for everybody. Not just ATP players reacted to the cancellation of Wimbledon, also their colleagues from WTA Tour were surprised by this decision. This included former champions such as Serena Williams, Simona Halep or Petra Kvitova.
Serena Williams was the champion at Wimbledon 7 times in singles and 7 times in doubles. She reacted just with a short message saying: "I'm shooked."
On the other hand, last year's champion, Simona Halep shared a bit longer message when she wrote: "So sad to hear Wimbledon won’t take place this year. Last year’s final will forever be one of the happiest days of my life! But we are going through something bigger than tennis and Wimbledon will be back! And it means I have even longer to look forward to defending my title."
Another former champion that reacted to the cancellation was Petra Kvitova. The Czech was the champion in the All England Club twice. She had won her first title in 2011 and added another one in 2014. "Definitely a tough one to take, with the announcement of the cancellation of Wimbledon this year. It's tournament that has been part of history for so long that it will leave big hole in the calendar."
Also, other players like Karolina Pliskova, Coco Gauff or Elina Svitolina reacted to the cancellation. While Pliskova nad Gauff shared just a short message, the Ukrainian did it in her own style again. While in quarantine, Elina started to be very active on TikTok and so she did it using this platform once again.

- Having spent weeks and weeks through the years on tour, I can say with confidence that Conchita was (is) one of the very few who realize the surprising level of maturity (and sometimes lack of) which Mirra seems to have developed in such a demanding adult world of Pro-Tennis. While at the same time reminding herself (Conchita, that is) that Mirra is still young and developing mentally and physically. The general public may forget at times, or not at all realize, these modern era young athletes do not have a 'normal' Youth. It's a major sacrifice, among countless sacrifices, these athletes must make. People who blow-off that fact are ignorant and unfair when they blurt out, "They choose fame so they have to put up with the intrusions on their lives". No, they do not.
mandoist05-11-2026 - Okay... someone with a camera was EAVESDROPPING on a private conversation. Shouldn't that be the point of discussion here? Regardless of the sensationalist crap by media, Pegula (and anyone) has a right to an opinion. There used to be an expectation that private conversations were respected, regardless of 'stardom' and whatever other defensive excuses media tries to shove in our faces. Boo-hoo if feelings are hurt. BTW: Having been employed at various tourney venues, etc., I can't tell you how nasty and offensive players can be when discussing their opponents and colleagues... in "private". Well, I could, but won't. I also challenge anyone to deny what Jessica said is false.
