The WTA will travel to Abu Dhabi, UAE for the 2024 Abu Dhabi Open, which will run from February 5-11, with this year's edition set to feature a record prize money haul for the competitors.
A WTA 500 event, the Abu Dhabi Open was first held in 2021, not held in 2022 before returning to the tour last year. Several top-ranked players will compete at the event, although defending champion Belinda Bencic will not return as she is currently expecting a child. Nonetheless, there will be other WTA stars who will be itching to etch their name in the history books as they compete for the prestigious title.
Former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina will be the top seed at the event, as the Kazakh star looks to capture her second WTA 500 title of the season after prevailing in Brisbane. Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur was scheduled to participate at last year's event, but withdrew due to an injury. Nonetheless, the former World No.2 will be present to thrill the fans with her unique brand of tennis. Former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Caroline Garcia will also add firepower to the event.
With so many high-ranked players present, the prize money consist of a $922,573 pool, and the winner will walk away with $142,000 as well as 500 WTA ranking points. Below is the full prize money breakdown and distribution of points.
