Jessica Pegula has withdrawn from the
Adelaide International semi-finals allowing
Daria Kasatkina a walkover to face either Ekaterina Alexandrova or Jelena Ostapenko who are currently facing off.
Doubts will now swirl about Pegula's preparation for the
Australian Open, with the American suffering from a GI illness (Gastrointestinal) which mainly affects the stomach. It could yet be merely precaution given the upcoming Grand Slam or could affect her in the run up to the first big tournament of the year.
As a result, it has been a fairly simple route for Kasatkina through who seals a second consecutive walkover after Laura Siegemund also handed her the win in the Quarter-Finals.
This means she has not played since she defeated Claire Liu 6-4, 6-3 in the first round and then compatriot Anna Kalinskaya 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 in the second round meaning she could only play three games in becoming champion. But like alluded to Alexandrova or Ostapenko now await the Russian in the final on Saturday morning.
