With the
conclusion of the Miami Open,
Iga Swiatek remains as No. 1 in the
WTA Race
despite not conquering the Sunshine Double. Swiatek's early exit in the
quarterfinals allowed
Elena Rybakina to advance one position and close the gap
against the 4-time Grand Slam champion.
The WTA
Race considers only the points obtained in the calendar year, from the first
week of 2024 until the last ranking update on April 1st. The top eight players
in this ranking will qualify for the WTA Finals.
Swiatek,
who won the title in Indian Wells two weeks prior, maintains her lead with
3,140 points, followed by Elena Rybakina with 2,643. The Kazakh reached the
final of the Miami Open but ended as the runner-up for the second consecutive
year, although it was enough to surpass
Aryna Sabalenka in the Race, who has
2,520 points after her third-round exit.
Qinwen
Zheng (1,785) and
Coco Gauff (1,765) continue the list, followed by Jelena
Ostapenko (1,553) and two recent WTA 1000 champions:
Danielle Collins (1,523)
and
Jasmine Paolini (1,472).
