WTA Race Update: Elena Rybakina strengthens grip after US Open title as Mirra Andreeva drops

The WTA Race has been updated after the US Open as we head into the South American and Asian portion of the season which will go towards completing the line-up.

Elena Rybakina, the new World No.1, led anyway going into the US Open after winning the Australian Open at the turn of the year and she continued to maintain a stranglehold over the competition albeit both her and Sabalenka are now qualified either way so it matters not other than perhaps for seeding at the Finals.

Rybakina now sits on 7,492 adding 2,000 to her tally. Sabalenka is on 6,485 after losing out in the final as she continues to rise albeit there is little competition to usurp the top two. Sabalenka sits on 6,485 points and the next players have risen after runs to the latter stages.

Jessica Pegula added a sizeable haul in losing in the semi-finals and she is up to third now behind the leading duo on 5,825 and will no doubt be the next player to seal her spot in the Finals. Coco Gauff very similar with the American going up one spot to 5,654 points.

She is in fourth and fifth is now Mirra Andreeva who won Roland Garros earlier in the year. But will likely need some semblance of a good end to the year after last year when she didn't qualify in the end despite dominating the early part of the season.

Others currently qualified include Elina Svitolina who is in sixth as well as Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova. The latter being a Grand Slam champion means likely she will have that on her side similar to Barbora Krejcikova two years ago.

Marta Kostyuk will aim to force herself into contention and she plays the WTA 500 in Guadalajara. The only player in the top 15 other than those who could is Iva Jovic who is also playing in Mexico. But again it could be an uphill struggle.

The main story though again is that Iga Swiatek seems very likely to miss out. She is in 10th spot and although Victoria Mboko won't add to her tally now as she is out for the rest of the year, it shows how quickly Swiatek has fallen.

Diane Parry reached the second round in New York and has gone up 22 spots to 27th. While Nikola Bartunkova (35th), Ann Li (30th), Elise Mertens (17th), Emma Navarro (23rd) are among the leading players to move up.

Albeit others have fallen such as Belinda Bencic towards going out of the top 20. She is 19th. She is down five spots. Hailey Baptiste is down six spots as is Barbora Krejcikova, Zeynep Sonmez too is down 10 spots to 51st.
