The WTA Ranking has been updated today, Monday, September 25, with results from the WTA 1000 Cymbiotika Guadalajara Open AKRON creating some huge leaps and falls across the board.
At the top, Aryna Sabalenka holds onto her position as World No. 1 with 9,266 points. This puts her over 1,000 points above No. 2 Iga Swiatek's 8,195. The rest of the top 5 has stayed the same, while Maria Sakkari has risen to No. 6 following her victory in Guadalajara.
The Greek player seemed to be struggling recently, and a first-round defeat at the US Open dragged her down to World No. 9. However, she now has 4,360 points and looks to be back in contention for the WTA Finals in November.
Caroline Garcia has re-entered the Top 10 after dropping to No. 11 last week. The Frenchwoman looked to be suffering a similar fate as Sakkari with early exits losing her points, but a run to the semi-finals in Mexico gave her a much-needed boost. Meanwhile, Barbora Krejcikova has dropped out of the Top 10 and sits in eleventh, although there are only 170 points between her and Garcia.
The other two Czech players in the top 10 have both dropped slightly, with Marketa Vondrousova falling two places to No. 8 and Karolina Muchova moving down one spot to No. 9.
Victoria Azarenka has re-entered the Top 20 after making it to the quarter-finals in Guadalajara, which saw her move up six places to No. 17. Donna Vekic also moved up to No. 20, while Ekaterina Alexandrova and Liudmila Samsonova both dropped out of the Top 20, landing at No. 21 and No. 22 respectively.
Elsewhere, Sofia Kenin experienced another meteoric rise in the rankings this week as she rose 22 places to almost make the Top 30. The former World No. 4 dropped out of the Top 100 at the end of August but has since been soaring back up with a run to the final of the San Diego Open and a semi-final appearance in Mexico.
However, the biggest leap in the Top 100 came from Caroline Dolehide, who finished as runner-up in Guadalajara while ranked World No. 111. This deep run brought her up sixty-nine places in the rankings, not only seeing her break into the Top 100, but also the Top 50 as she landed at No. 42 with 1,211 points.
Martina Trevisan, who ousted top seed Ons Jabeur to make the quarter-finals in Mexico, has risen thirteen places to No. 41, while fellow quarter-finalist Leylah Fernandez has moved up fourteen spots to No. 60. Taylor Townsend and Dayana Yastremska have both moved into the Top 100, with the former rising twelve places to No. 89 and the latter going up two places to No. 100.
