Simona Halep won the Internazionali BNL d'Italia trophy but that wasn't enough to dethrone Ashleigh Barty as world number 1.

Simona had an amazing week in Rome which ended with her first Internazionali BNL d'Italia trophy but that wasn't enough to unseat Ashleigh Barty as world number one. The Australian who decided not to leave Australia during the pandemic retained her place for now but that might soon change as the French Open is near and she won't defend her title.

Besides that, we saw other movements in the Top 10 as well as Kenin and Svitolina switched places with the Ukrainian now being #5. The biggest jump in the top 100 was made by Danka Kovinic who played very well in Rome. The Montenegrin player jumped 13 spots to become world number 73. Several players dropped in rankings over the week with notably Donna Vekic continuing her slip in the rankings sitting at number 30. Yulia Putintseva continued to climb the rankings as her solid form continued in Rome. She is now sitting firmly at number 27.
