WTA Rankings Update | Shnaider and Fernandez on the march, Anisimova exits top 20 while Dart rises after breakthrough title run
WTA
We are coming to the end of another enthralling season with the final tournaments set to be played. However, there is still time for change in the WTA Rankings, with the players making that final push up the order.
It is quiet at the top, with Elena Rybakina confirmed to finish the year as World No.1. That role had been reserved for Aryna Sabalenka the past two years, but a changing of the guard is a welcoming one for the Kazakh who pulled out of the Pan Pacific Open to focus on the upcoming WTA Finals title defence.
Mirra Andreeva remains third with the chance of overtaking Sabalenka in Indian Wells. Coco Gauff has been reinstated as the American No.1 ahead of Jessica Pegula by three points. Iga Swiatek also loses a place as Linda Noskova ascends above her into eighth.
Shnaider threatens top 10 breakthrough as Anisimova drops
It was a terrific outing in Tokyo for Shnaider. She won her first WTA title in 2026 in a thrilling three-set triumph over an inform Leylah Fernandez. It is a joint career-high for the Russian as she finds herself back in 11th. The top 10 seems close on paper, but there is a large gap for her to bridge to Marta Kostyuk, tallying around 700 points.
As for Fernandez, that is now three finals in this year's Asian swing. While she prevailed in Singapore, defeats at the final hurdle in Ningbo and Tokyo would be painful, to say the least. The Canadian can take the positives that she is back in the top 20 after a five-place climb to 18th.

Leylah Fernandez is back in the top 20
Alexandra Eala is in a new career-high of 17th in the world. She lost out to Shnaider in the quarter-finals at the Pan Pacific Open, but those points gained prove to be very valuable. Another reason for this rise is that Victoria Mboko relinquished the points won from her Hong Kong Open title run.
While she is on the brink of a top-20 exit, that reality has bestowed Amanda Anisimova. It has been a dreadful campaign for the American, who was not able to kick on from last year's ascent and has paid the price. Sitting in 22nd, there is much work to do in 2027 to get back among the elite.
Further down the list, there are some big winners. Kamill Rakhimova initially did not qualify for the Pan Pacific Open, but her entrance as a lucky loser was capitalised. 22 places were gained for the 25-year-old thanks to that semi-final run, and a big career-high of 44th is her ultimate reward.
Paula Badosa makes a top 60 comeback, but from a Spanish perspective it was Katilin Quevedo who performed the best at the Guangzhou Open, losing at the final four. Now 71st, she is breaking more ground. Tagger was the victor in that match, but not in the tournament.

That went the way of Harriet Dart for a maiden WTA title. She is reaping the lavish rewards of this significant breakthrough. Qualifications for the big tournaments will be a thing of the past for the time being with more ground set to be made in the coming months. The new British No.3 overtook Emma Raducanu and Francesca Jones up to 84th, rising 31 spots.
