Daria Kasatkina made a winning start to her Roland Garros campaign beating former finalist Marketa Vondrousa in the second set and after the match, she questioned the WTA's calendar.
Kasatkina has been one of the better players in the past two years reaching the top 10 and making her way to the WTA Finals last year. The Russian is also quite outspoken so she didn't mince her words when asked about the next few months and how they will look like. She revealed a troubling thing.
No schedule yet
According to Kasatkina, the WTA hasn't yet provided the players with a schedule of the second part of the year making it impossible for them to plan which events they will play or not. Obviously, some like the Masters and US Open are fixed but the rest of them are yet to be determined:
"No. Unfortunately, no. We're still waiting for the calendar for the second part of the season.
No idea. Yeah, I also want to know why it's taking that long, but we don't have an answer."
Tricky match
When it comse to her match against Vondrousova it was a very good and a very competitive. As she explained after, both players were even tired in the first set:
"It was very physical. We were pretty tired already in the middle of the first set, and I think we showed pretty good level of tennis today, and I hope everyone enjoyed it. Yeah, it's always nice to win matches like that, and I'm happy with the level."
