Gael Monfils stunned many including Sebastian Baez with his tremendous comeback at Roland Garros recently and it's one of the better ones in recent memory.
Tennis comebacks are always very impressive because they are hard to do and don't happen quite often. We've seen some incredible ones where players manage to come back from down two sets to win. Dominic Thiem for example won his only grand slam by coming back that way against Alexander Zverev who was controlling the match.
Novak Djokovic did it a couple of times including at Roland Garros once where he came back against Tsitsipas from 0-2 down to win the event. Monfils' comeback wasn't from two sets down. He was actually up 2-1 but it was still amazing. He lost the 4th set easily and was down 4-0 in the final set with only a handful of wins this year.
At age 36 and playing a much younger player who loves to play to on clay. It was very impressive to see him make it 4-4 and then once again come back from 5-4. The emotional celebration certainly proves that it meant a lot to him. It was only a 1st round match though so the stakes weren't that big and there are likely bigger matches in tennis history and better comebacks.

Fans react

Some tennis fans certainly rank this high as one reacted:
One of the best of all time. At 36 years old to pull it off not just pulling off a miracle third set victory but then doing it again fifth set down 0-4 and a couple break points then again down 5-4, it was incredible stuff For me it's high personally and like everyone says, the manner in which he did it is the really incredible thing with all the winners the energy and incredible shotmaking and antics, just raising it up to a ten. Makes it one of the most memorable and enjoyable ever that's without a doubt
