"You are in our thoughts and prayers always": Billie Jean King sends message of support to Chris Evert after cancer returns

Billie Jean
King sent her support to Chris Evert after she revealed that her cancer had
returned for the second time in the last two years. The unfortunate news led
Evert to step down from the ESPN commentator team for the 2024 Australian Open,
but she stated that she would return for the subsequent Grand Slams.
Evert, 68
years old, had previously announced her diagnosis of stage 1 ovarian cancer in
January 2022. The 18-times Grand Slam champion had completed her chemotherapy
in May 2022, but sadly, the disease returned.
The former
world No. 1 made a significant post in which she explained the process she is
going through and emphasized the importance of early detection, in this case
through a genetic test:
"We
send our love and support to @ChrissieEvert. You are in our thoughts and
prayers always," King posted on X (formerly Twitter)
Here is the
message that Chris Evert left for her fans on ESPN:
“Since I
was first diagnosed with cancer two years ago, I've been very open about my
experience. I wanted to give all of you an update. My cancer is back. While
this is a diagnosis I never wanted to hear, I once again feel fortunate that it
was caught early. Based on a PET CT scan, I underwent another robotic surgery
this past week. Doctors found cancer cells in the same pelvic region. All cells
were removed, and I have begun another round of chemotherapy," Evert said.
"I
will be unable to join my colleagues when ESPN makes its return to Melbourne
for the Australian Open next month. But I'll be ready for the rest of the Grand
Slam season! I encourage everyone to know your family history and advocate for
yourself. Early detection saves lives. Be thankful for your health this holiday
season," former world No. 1 added.

- I love WTA matches. Seek them out as much as possible on youtube and other platforms I already subscribe to. With that in mind, I do not wish to pay $$$ to a notoriously slippery subscription conglomerate sports broadcaster (like SkySports) just for the privilege to watch it and the tnt/eurosport/discovery subscription went from $$ to $$$+ annually in a blink of an eye. With ATP I have been begrudgingly paying xyz tennis only channel and try to catch up on slams elsewhere (pubs, youtube with USO later on games are just as enjoyable to watch and a smart move to upload on their official channel) but they don't cover WTA. I tried another Tennis dedicated channel that advertised originally as broadcasting where I live, but turned out, they took the money, but didn't cover the matches (only fluff/filler value documentaries). I don't understand why it is so hard to not lock the live matches to one broadcaster only refusing so many people who are happy to pay for the privilege just not through that one entry point. WTA is so exciting for the last few years and they really should capitalise on it as much as possible. And I know it is somewhat naive talking without knowing the inner works, but not being able to find any WTA other than youtube (and then only highlights mostly) is just so frustrating.JayJay11-09-2026

- Iga needs to make a decision whether she wants to continue the sport of tennis or pursue whatever she has going on in her personal life. One can tell that tennis is no longer an interest of hers.
