The Open Sud de France in Montpellier moved there in 2010 when the organizers bought a license from Lyon, staging the event at the Arena with a capacity of 7,500.
In the first seven editions (Montpellier stayed away from the calendar in 2011), the French players were dominant figures, with three titles for Richard Gasquet and two for Gael Monfils, who was also the first champion.
Gael claimed the crown a year ago, becoming a three-time champion and not signing to defend the trophy in 2021. Roberto Bautista Agut, David Goffin, and Dusan Lajovcic are the top seeds, leading the field with six top-35 competitors.
Bautista Agut and Goffin should be the top contenders, with Ugo Humbert, Hubert Hurkacz, and the young Italian gun Jannik Sinner trying to spoil their party. The multiple champion Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga should seek good results, with entertaining matches growing from the first round.
