The 2022 ATP
Madrid Open held its draw and there are some fantastic early matchups as well as some great projected quarterfinals.
Projected quarterfinals rarely come true but it's a nice exercise to fantasize about as a tennis fan. The 2022 Madrid Open could potentially deliver some spectacular matchups at that stage of the event. The first one is between
Novak Djokovic and
Casper Ruud and that one should be very interesting, especially on clay. Neither is playing well at the moment but perhaps Madrid could be a breakthrough for both.
The 2nd one is a matchup we saw in Madrid last year. It's between a rising superstar and his idol
Rafael Nadal. That match was won by Nadal easily but the one this year in Indian Wells was quite competitive. Nadal won that one as well but it was a spectacular one that we might see again in Madrid. The 3rd one is between Tsitsipas and Rublev.
They played several matches before and some of them have been finals as well. Both have defeated each other on clay so it's going to be a very competitive one regardless. The final one is between Zverev and Auger-Aliassime. Both players are not playing well but both are capable of doing it. The event is a pivotal one for Zverev as he is the defending champion and a good run could do wonders for him.
