The main draw for the 2022 ATP Madrid Open tennis event next week pitted Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz in the same quarter among other things.
The Spanish sensation had a chance to face Djokovic in Monte-Carlo but neither he nor the Serbian made it to that stage but perhaps Madrid will provide that opportunity. Alcaraz was thrilled with the chance to play Djokovic wanting it badly and he might just be able to get it this time if he reaches the semifinal.
That route towards Djokovic will take him through Rafael Nadal whom he might face in the quarterfinal. They played in Madrid last year and Nada won that match easily. Alcaraz will begin against either Basilashvili or Fognini. Djokovic might face Gael Monfils in round two and that would be a banger.
Nadal might face Bublik or Kecmanovc in round two with Andrey Rublev having to face either Sonego or Draper. Other seeds like Ruud and Tsitsipas will also have tricky jobs with the Norwegian set to face either Coric or Bautista Agut. Tsitsipas might play Pouille or Khachanov. Other interesting matchups include Opelka - Korda, Tiafoe - Garin, Sinner - Paul, Brooksby - Fritz and Murray - Thiem. Check it out below.
