Marketa Vondrousova sealed the Ladies Singles title at 2023
Wimbledon, but who will join the Czech ace in the post tournament photographs as the Men's Champion.
Novak Djokovic and
Carlos Alcaraz will battle in a true clash between two of the best that the sport has to offer. TennisUpToDate as ever will
preview proceedings with the main talking points and their route to the final examined.
Route to the final: Novak Djokovic
For Novak Djokovic, it has been imperious barring a few sets here or there which are usual for the imperious Serbian ace.
Djokovic has so far defeated Pedro Cachin, Jordan Thompson, Stan Wawrinka and then Hubert Hurkacz and Andrey Rublev - the latter two he lost sets against in the end.
But as ever, he rallied from this to seal victories in momentary blips. He then saw off Jannik Sinner who remarked that he played better than he did last year when he claimed two sets against him.
But still he couldn't trouble his resolve. A record equalling eighth Wimbledon title is firmly in the sights of Djokovic and also the Calendar Slam which again will crescend at the US Open.
He has not been beaten in ten years in this tournament since Andy Murray in the final of 2013 but can a young pretender take his throne.
Route to the Final: Carlos Alcaraz
That young pretender being World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz no less who will look to avoid bad memories of Roland Garros.
An infamous Roland Garros where Alcaraz was the favourite to win the title and topple Novak Djokovic and got part the way there before cramping up and his tournament was basically over from there on.
This time he wasn't expected to do as much with this tournament being seen almost as a free hit due to his past prowess on grass not being on par with many of the big hitters.
But that soon changed when he won Queen's on his first try and after an early wobble at the warm-up against Arthur Rinderknech, he looked to adapt his game well.
This has carried onto Wimbledon where he was gone from outsider to bonafide contender and now faces Djokovic in the final.
After thrashing Jeremy Chardy and Alexandre Muller, he nearly lost to Nicolas Jarry and came from a set down to defeat Matteo Berrettini.
Following that, Holger Rune and Daniil Medvedev were dispatched with consummate ease. Next up though is the king of Wimbledon.
Head to Head
Only two meetings have occurred between the pair with it shared at 1-1.
One of those was the infamous Roland Garros clash with the other being on the clay of Madrid back in 2022. So no meetings on grass but Djokovic will go in as the favourite due to his prowess on the surface.
