Albeit a day fraught with conditions of all types, the BMW Munich Open confirmed its Quarter-Final line-up which will be played on Friday in the German city headlined by their home hope in Alexander Zverev who snapped his hoodoo in this tournament by winning a match so everything is a bonus.
Zverev won the title back-to-back, but has barely wona game since achieving that feat and he will be favourite to seal the title this week still though. He faces Cristian Garin who took down Alex Michelsen amid rain delays and interruptions. Zverev himself went through rain delays with hail even on Wednesday as he saw off Jurij Rodionov 7-6, 6-2. He will hope for less of the sky opening and more the opening of the face of his racquet.
Opening the day is one of the only players who got through unscathed before the day of delays in Taylor Fritz. The American third seed saw off Alejandro Moro Canas before rain opened up and scuppered other games. He will face Jack Draper who saw off Rudolf Molleker from a set down 6-4, 1-6, 1-6. But as the scoreline suggests, it was certainly dominant in the end when he got going.
Holger Rune's match was one of those delayed and he had snow come down during his. He now faces Marc-Andrea Huesler for a spot in the semi-finals. A top tie awaits to end the day as Felix Auger-Aliassime faces another home hero in Jan-Lennard Struff. By the end of today, we could have two Germans in the semi-finals or it could be wipeout time with only Rune and Fritz remaining for instance or all top names could go. It has been an unpredictable tournament so far so anything can happen. That is Friday at the BMW Munich Open with a superb line-up awaiting.
