The draw has been released for the Kitzbuhel
Open, set to take place between July 22 and July 27 on outdoor clay courts. The
tournament is an ATP 250 event and will be held at the Tennis Stadium
Kitzbühel, featuring various clay specialists, led by
Sebastian Baez and
Alejandro Tabilo, along with the presence of
Matteo Berrettini and Dominic
Thiem.
The tournament has over 130 years of history
since its first edition, originally known as the Austrian International
Championships. This year, it will distribute €579,320 in prize money. The
tournament will serve as preparation for the Olympic Games, which will take
place the following week on the clay courts of Roland Garros.
Kitzbuhel Open Draw
The tournament suffered two important
withdrawals in recent days. Following his defeat at the Bastad Open, world No.
9 Casper Ruud decided to skip this week of competition to prepare for the
Olympics without any distractions. Additionally, Chilean Nicolas Jarry is also
focusing on Paris 2024 after an ear infection that has complicated his last
month, prompting him to withdraw from Kitzbuhel as well.
In this edition, the South Americans will be
the main favorites with the top three seeds of the draw. First seed and
defending champion Sebastian Baez (No. 19) awaits his opponent in the second
round, facing the winner of the match between his compatriot Thiago Agustin
Tirante (No. 121) and
Dominic Thiem (No. 133), champion in 2019. The
30-year-old Austrian is playing the tournament for the last time after
announcing his retirement a few months ago.
Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (No. 20) entered as
the second seed, following a successful grass swing in which he won the
Mallorca Open and finished with a 7-2 record. The 27-year-old player awaits the
winner between Russian Pavel Kotov (No. 60) and Matteo Berrettini (No. 82), who
is playing the final of the Gstaad Open this Sunday.
Tomas Martin Etcheverry (No. 32) and Pedro
Martinez (No. 49) are the third and fourth seeds, respectively, and also await
their debut in the second round. The Argentine will face the winner of Jaume
Munar (No. 59) and Yannik Hanfmann (No. 111), while Martinez awaits either
Sumit Nagal (No. 68) or a player coming from the qualifiers.
