Russian tennis dynamo Daniil Medvedev has faced either Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal in all five of his Grand Slam finals, and Medvedev's coach Gilles Cervara would like to see his ward battle someone outside of two members of the legendary Big Three in these matches.
Medvedev holds a 1-4 record in Major finals, with his latest coming in September when he fell to Djokovic at the US Open. His first Grand Slam final came at the 2019 edition of the same event, where he fell to Nadal in five sets. Medvedev's only victory in a Major final occurred at the 2021 US Open, where he defeated Djokovic in straight sets following a superb performance.
In a recent interview, Cervera stated he would like to see his pupil improve on his Grand Slam final record. The Frenchman acknowledged the skill and prowess of Djokovic and Nadal, but added he would like to see Medvedev face other players in these matches, naming Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as two potential opponents.
"I would love to see Daniil with more Major titles," said Cervera. "All of his finals came against Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal, which presents a massive difference in comparison to other potential opponents. I would love to see Daniil facing someone else in a Major final, like Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner. I would be very interested in the outcome in that case."
