Henry Patten and Harri Heliövaara secured their second Grand Slam title as partners after defeating Italian duo Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the Australian Open final, 6-7 [16-18], 7-6 [7-5], 6-3.
The pair has quickly become one of the most dangerous duos on tour, claiming the second major title of their careers. Their first was at Wimbledon 2024, where they defeated Australians Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson 6-7 [7-9], 7-6 [10-8], 7-6 [11-9].
This time, the British-Finnish duo entered as 6th seeds and advanced to the semifinals without dropping a set. There, they faced German 4th seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz, whom they defeated in a third-set tie-break, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 [10-7].
Patten and Heliövaara now rank as the second-best pair on tour and have moved up 10 spots, with both reaching the top 5 for the first time in their careers. Patten will be ranked world No. 3 on Monday, and Heliövaara will be No. 4, trailing by a mere 20 points. Marcelo Arévalo and Mate Pavic, champions at the French Open and ATP Finals, still lead the rankings.
Patten and Heliövaara add another title to their three ATP 250 titles from the last year. Additionally, they reached finals at the Beijing Open and Bucharest and semifinals at the ATP Finals.
In mixed doubles, neither had much luck. Finnish player Heliövaara teamed up with Anna Danilina and was defeated in the second round by Andres Molteni and Asia Muhammad. Patten, paired with compatriot Olivia Nicholls, reached the semifinals, including a win over top seeds Vavassori and Sara Errani. They fell to Australians Kimberly Birrell and John-Patrick Smith, who were runners-up.
