Predictions
Samuel Gill, Head Editor for TennisUpToDate.com sees Joao Fonseca as the champion.
With Novak Djokovic not involved, it has been blown wide open from here with Joao Fonseca for me being the one to take advantage.
Been playing superbly and will have a big fan base so for me is well prepared. If not him then I see Alejandro Davidovich Fokina for instance also roaring to the task.
Favourites
*** Joao Fonseca
** Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Valentin Vacherot
Cristhian Avila, Editor for TennisUpToDate.com sees Jiri Lehecka if he plays being up to the task.
Jiri Lehecka is a player who has shown a high level on the Australian swing, with conditions that seem to suit him and give him a boost in confidence. It will also be an opportunity for Joao Fonseca to show if he can maintain his level and find the consistency needed to take the next step in his career.
Another who can take advantage is the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, although his inconsistency in finals may weigh against him. There is also the chance for lower-ranked players to create surprises, such as Zizou Bergs or Gabriel Diallo.
***Jiri Lehecka
**Joao Fonseca, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
*Zizou Bergs, Gabriel Diallo
Lucas Michael, Editor for TennisUpToDate.com also sees Fonseca leading the way.
With Novak Djokovic’s absence from the
Adelaide International, this competition has been thrown wide open. There are many names who will fancy themselves for the title, so it is a tough pick to choose just one.
The highest-ranking player is now Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who has had rotten luck with prior final appearances. One of them was to Joao Fonseca in the Swiss Indoors, the fifth ATP Final he has failed to win. On the other hand, that is two from two for the young Brazilian, who I think could feature deep in the tournament.
Despite a lacklustre end to the season, the 2024 champion Jiri Lehecka will be a force to be reckoned with Down Under while the likes of Tommy Paul and Stefanos Tsitsipas look to get their careers back on track. Both players have had a tendency to start the season on the front foot, specifically looking at Paul last season with that Australian Open quarter-final.
It could go to anyone, but I will lean towards the talented Fonseca to get his season off with a statement of intent.
