Carlos
Alcaraz defeated
Stefanos Tsitsipas and advanced to the semifinals of Roland
Garros, where he will face
Novak Djokovic.
In what was
expected to be an electrifying match, world No. 1
Carlos Alcaraz showcased his
superiority over Stefanos Tsitsipas, taking less than two hours to overcome his
opponent. In the first set, the Spanish player won 93% of the points, far
surpassing the Greek player who only managed to secure 53%. With just four
unforced errors, Alcaraz won 64% of the points and took the lead with a score
of 6-2.
The
consistency displayed by the former US Open champion began to frustrate
Tsitsipas, who won only 45% of the points with his first serve and 23% with his
second, while also committing 13 unforced errors and hitting just 3 winners. This
gave the set to 'Carlitos' with a score of 6-1.
TERCER SET
The final
set kept Alcaraz shining, as he secured an early break to go up 3-0. However,
Tsitsipas showed resilience and managed to break back when it seemed like the
20-year-old player was taking the match. In the tie-break, the young Spanish
player showcased his favoritism and clinched the match with a final score of
6-2, 6-1, 7-6(5), proving that his level is at its peak for the next round.
In the
semifinals of the
French Open, he will face Novak Djokovic, who defeated Karen
Kachanov. The world No. 1 and 2 will meet for the second time, following their
encounter in the semifinals of the 2022 Madrid Open, which saw Alcaraz emerge
victorious in the final tie-break.
