Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz is leading the prize money ladder in 2023,
largely because of Wimbledon's 2023 win.
The 20-year-old registered a famous victory in the final of
the third Grand Slam of the year after beating Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic in a five-set
thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
That victory didn’t only help Alcaraz win his second major
title but he also became the player with the most prize money in the ongoing year
with more than $7.8 million.
Second on the list features Djokovic who has managed to win prize
money worth $6.5 million.
Third in the list features Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev who is currently
standing just over $5.4 million in prize money.
The victory was a special one for the current world number one
as before this year, his best outing in Wimbledon was reaching the fourth
round.
On the other hand, not only that result impact Djokovic’s
overall earnings this year, but it also halted his march towards equaling the
record of former Swiss tennis star Roger Federer.
The 41-year-old remains the most successful player in the
history of Wimbledon in men’s singles tennis history, having won the competition
eight times.
Djokovic remains the joint second-most successful player in
the competition’s history, having won seven titles, equal with America’s Pete
Sampras.
