Carlos Alcaraz is hoping that he can still form a doubles union with
Rafael Nadal and aim for gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics alongside the great Spaniard, but admits that it could be difficult to achieve.
Speaking after opening his account at the China Open defeating Yannick Hanfmann, Alcaraz hopes first and foremost that he can stay healthy and play the start of the year as well as hopes for himself that he can remain at his best with the tournament not being for some months.
With the tournament being played on the clay courts in Paris, many feel that it could be a befitting end for the Spanish legend despite murmerings that if he plays well he could end up carrying on playing after initially announcing his 2024 swansong.
“Right now Rafa is suffering a lot. I hope he can return to training & that he can play next year from the beginning, that we have a healthy Rafa, ready for the Games. It would obviously be a dream for me to play doubles with him in Paris. It depends on both of us," said Alcaraz.
There are many months left until Paris, many things can happen. I have to be healthy, work hard, & be ready for this tournament. We will see what happens, but it is clear that it would be a dream."
